Dressage

Non art related blog entry now. I took my ex-racehorse to his first ever show yesterday (also his first ever 'public' outing since he raced) to have a go at a couple of dressage tests.

Really really pleased with how he went! I went with no expectations other than he may be really really naughty, but I was pleasantly surprised. After some bouncing around in the warm up (well, we don't have a school at home, or other horses working around us, so a busy warm up was bound to be very exciting!), he went in and did a really chilled walk and trot test, with some really nice parts to it, and only a couple of spooks (he's never seen white boards before!).

We then did prelim 7 and again some nice parts to that too, although I did manage an error of course - oops. We didn't come anywhere (mid-range so at least not the worst!), and got 54% and 52%, but I'm delighted all the same as I hadn't practiced either test, or any elements from them, as I just wanted to go for a bit of a learning experience for him. We had some constructive comments from the judge, nothing unexpected, and also some nice comments too for the good parts. All in all a really good day!! Just need to work on the loading bit now as that could be slightly more straightforward..
