New original drawing 'Focus'

'Focus'
Approx 11" x 7" (280cm x 180cm)
Graphite on Bristol Board
Original available

I am really pleased to report that I have finished my new original drawing 'Focus'. This has taken me about 15 hours on and off over the last few weeks. I have really enjoyed including such detail in this drawing, if you look closely you can see all the tiny hairs, which were probably the most time consuming of this whole piece!

Postcard portrait listed on E-bay

16/09/2011

As part of my clear out I have listed another little portrait on to E-bay.

This time is it a little postcard sized drawing of a Showjumper on his horse, on Bristol Board. This auction has a low start price with no reserve, and free postage. I don't expect it to make much, however I am hoping that someone will be able to enjoy this drawing, rather than it sitting out of sight.

Please take a look - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Equine-Art-Alexandra-Kitt-/170697923837?pt=UK_art_drawings_GL&hash=item27be639cfd

Dressage

11/09/2011

Non art related blog entry now. I took my ex-racehorse to his first ever show yesterday (also his first ever 'public' outing since he raced) to have a go at a couple of dressage tests.

Really really pleased with how he went! I went with no expectations other than he may be really really naughty, but I was pleasantly surprised. After some bouncing around in the warm up (well, we don't have a school at home, or other horses working around us, so a busy warm up was bound to be very exciting!), he went in and did a really chilled walk and trot test, with some really nice parts to it, and only a couple of spooks (he's never seen white boards before!).

We then did prelim 7 and again some nice parts to that too, although I did manage an error of course - oops. We didn't come anywhere (mid-range so at least not the worst!), and got 54% and 52%, but I'm delighted all the same as I hadn't practiced either test, or any elements from them, as I just wanted to go for a bit of a learning experience for him. We had some constructive comments from the judge, nothing unexpected, and also some nice comments too for the good parts. All in all a really good day!! Just need to work on the loading bit now as that could be slightly more straightforward..

I'm currently half way through drawing a new original piece. I've been trying to take some pictures of it 'in progress', so here are a couple:

More pictures of this to come as I carry on with it. I also had my first foray into selling some work on E-bay this week; perhaps not the most successful venture, however I hope the winning bidder is happy with the drawing - will be posted to you tomorrow!

I hope to try and list some more pieces on E-bay over the coming weeks as I am trying to have a bit of a clear out - I have quite a few sitting around and no where to really display them; hopefully they can go

I'm pleased to report I am back from a lovely break, and picking up the pencils once more.

I am now accepting portrait commissions, as well as picking up the original pieces I started and put down again a couple of months previously.

Although it's still a good few months away, I already have a couple of commissions on a Christmas waiting list; please do contact me if you would be interested in commissioning a portrait for someone, I'm told they make excellent presents!

Perhaps a little bit of a delayed blog post regarding these, however I have started producing some tiny post card sized portraits. I have been doing these for a little bit of fun really, however may try and list this first one of E-bay sometime soon!

Here is the first one, with another on the go at the moment:

Commissioning a portrait

Ooops the blog has been a little neglected as of late...!

Time is running out if you would like to commission a portrait, as of the end of May I will not be accepting commissions until the beginning of September, due to my forthcoming wedding. Please do get in touch if you would like to commission a portrait for a special event during that period.

A recent commission:

Update

24/03/2011

It's been a little while since I have updated my blog, so here is a well overdue update.

I have just finished off my last commission, and hope to be able to post an update soon, subject to client approval. I'm delighted that I managed to get myself a little bit of a waiting list early this year, which hopefully means there are people out there that like my art!! This is now cleared so I am ready to take on any further commissions :-)

I am actually getting married this year, and so to give me ample time to prepare, I won't be accepting any commissions after the end of May, until the end of August.  The idea here being that I won't I have any last minute panics to complete a piece of work whilst worrying about flower choices etc! I was also hoping to submit one piece for consideration for the Society of Equestrian Artists Annual  Exhibition, however this falls over my honeymoon so sadly I won't be able to submit the work if it were to get submitted. There is always next year though!

The Equine art went out of the window this weekend....

Sadly I have not had any time to do anything art related this weekend as one of my horses had colic Friday night. Although his symptoms were only mild, upon inspection by my vet it became apparant that he had displaced his colon and so was admitted to horspital on Saturday afternoon. After a day and a half of starvation, fluids and lunging every 2 hours, his colon has finally moved back to its right place and he is now allowed to eat, and being hand grazed for 10 minutes or so every 2 hours. Hopefully he is on the way to recovery, but here is a picture of him earlier this morning:

On a more positive note though, here is my most recent commission of a gorgeous grey pony, for anyone not connected to my Facebook page:

Busy weekend

I've had a busy weekend, and time has flown by (well, that's quite standard for a weekend really!). I have finished off a commission of a gorgeous grey Pony, and the client is really pleased with it - just need to add some whiskers that I wasn't sure if he had, or not! I'm also a third of the way through another commission. Hope to be able to post a shot of these soon, subject to client approval.

Outdoors it has been really cold here, and I took to hacking out in my thermal gloves in a bid to keep warm! Roll on Spring!! Really pleased with how my mare, Ellie, is coming on....she had about 2 years off of work due to soft tissue damage in her front feet. Whilst she was not lame, she was not quite level  and was resigned to being a field ornament - as a last ditch attempt at getting her back into some kind of work, I took the advice of a barefoot trimmer last Spring regarding diet and work and approach to hoof care, and whilst it's taken time, she is now happily hacking out, sound, and looks fantastic. Something I never thought I would see. Of course, the only downside to this is I now have two to exercise, really need to find her a Sharer!!

I specialise in producing realistic Equine art in graphite pencil, and am also working to master other mediums such as oils. Horses are a huge part of my life - I have three of my own - so it is no surprise that they are my favourite subject to draw and paint! I have created this blog to follow my art, as well as my adventures of my Horses.
